Ah, retirement! After decades of taxing work, that magical moment when you can finally relax, my dad has finally retired as an HVAC tech. He enjoyed laboring for the HVAC company & he enjoyed it so much that even after retiring, he kept talking about his past stories. He brought up his HVAC afternoons at every family supper, phone call, & even with strangers. He would be like, “Hey, did I ever tell you about the time I fixed a boiler in the middle of a blizzard?” Or he would say, “How about the time I climbed a roof to upgrade an a/c unit?” I have heard these stories a million times, my siblings & I would consistently smile though. He told us about his HVAC glory afternoons & my wonderful friend and I consistently nodded. I remember last summer time he decided to test his skills one more time, our a/c broke down. My dad was gleeful to get to work & see what the problem was. After a few hours, he yelled, “Fixed it.” The thing is he thought he fixed it however after turning it on, he didn’t. My dad scratched his head & muttered something about a possible malfunctioning compressor or whatever. I entirely didn’t understand what he was saying. His memory was lost after one year & my wonderful friend and I had to call an HVAC professional to service the a/c unit. My dad was ok with it however a little sad, he just wanted one more win. I know he still wants to do the work & maybe he should try & do some handyman work for our neighbors.
