Needed to install a rail and ramp for my dad

My father fell and hurt his knee a few weeks back.

  • He has not been feeling absolutely good right now.

My wife and I discussed all of our options and we want dad to live with us. We had to make some changes, so Dad would be able to safely walk in and out of the house. I have a long driveway and a set of stairs at the base of the porch. My father had trouble climbing the stairs before the accident; Keeping the stairs was not a possibility if Dad was moving into our condo full-time. My wife called a buddy who has a fencing and landscape supplier. The fencing supplier specializes in hand rails, ramps, and accessories for ADA members. She came over to our place and helped my wife build a ramp plus a handrail all the way from the bottom to the top. The ramp has a slow incline plus a few places where my Dad can stop plus rest for a moment. The current ramp and railing could have been an expensive project, however my wife’s buddy didn’t charge us anything for the help. The only thing we had to buy were the materials like wood, screws, plus hardware. My Dad is going to move in next weekend after he is released from the rehab center. My father isn’t gleeful about giving up his independence. Even though my wife plus I are looking forward to having him here with us, there will be a lot of current changes for almost everyone.
