I prefer having lots of blankets to use in the winter.
- Sometimes I will simply curl up on the couch with a huge soft wool blanket, even if I have a fire burning in the wood stove.
It’s actually nice to do when it’s very cold outside. Lately it seems that temperatures have been getting colder every year for the last 5 years or so. When I was a kid, my family and I did not get temperatures as low as we’re getting them now. I remember my dad cutting firewood every year to use in our wood stove as an alternative to our central heater. We actually relied on that wood every year to keep us from getting cold. Nowadays, I actually have a good central furnace in my house, despite the fact that I still like to use heated blankets. In the past I would simply use a space furnace in my room, despite the fact that I felt safer using heated blankets instead of the space furnace when I’m trying to get warm. I have heard of homes being burnt down with space boilers and it constantly makes me paranoid. At the same time, I have heard about people starting fires with heated blankets, so I know it just depends on each device, however, you need to be responsible about using them properly and not leaving them on unattended. That’s the best way you can avoid having concerns like fires in your house. But at the end of the day, that is why I end up using my central furnace more than anything else. I can leave it on at night and not worry about waking up surrounded by fire. It gives me peace of mind that I don’t have with a heated blanket or a space furnace for instance.
