We must live in a pretty dilapidated area of our power grid, because a stiff breeze often seems enough to knock out our power! It can definitely get annoying at times.
We’ve had the power go out right in the middle of an important football game! We’ve also had the power go out right before we’re getting ready to cook dinner! Often, the reason is nothing more than a particularly windy day or a thunderstorm passing through.
Other times, the weather is fair outside and the only thing we can think of is that a squirrel fried itself on a power line! The summers get really hot around here, so perhaps the most annoying part is losing air conditioning. There’s nothing worse than having to endure an entire hot and humid night in the summer with no air conditioning because the power crews couldn’t get it together after a particularly bad summer thunderstorm! This reason and this reason alone has made us decide that we are going to buy a generator soon. We just hate going without air conditioning in this heat. I just wish the city would get its act together and fix our area of the power grid so that we don’t have to worry about this sort of thing anymore. It’s ridiculous that I have to drop a few thousand dollars on a generator at the very least, just to ensure that I have air conditioning on a hot summer day or evening. And don’t get me started on hurricane season. We are always the first to lose power!
