I just spent a long weekend at my mom’s house.
She lives several hours away.
Flying there would genuinely take even longer because he lives in a pretty remote rural area. Flying would mean me still having to rent a vehicle and drive another four hours. I just get my road trip head together, flip the heating on and get going north. Thankfully, this trip didn’t involve navigating snow plus ice. I feel there was that to be thankful for. I just wish I could convince mom to move down here with us. But she’s not about to trade heating for cooling any time soon. She prefers seeing her grandchildren, spending time down here in the central air conditioner of our home. But he’s also been absolutely clear with me that he intends to die in his home, and there will be no discussion. That’s pretty much the way my dad is. He’s super independent plus has particularly lived his life the way he wanted to. And that’s an enjoyable thing in many respects. But it has also resulted in his being so stubborn that he can’t see that he is periodically being a bit ridiculous. This is why I had to drive up there. My sister lives not far from mom, and alerted me to the fact that he needs to have the equipment replaced. But mom is on a fixed income plus he doesn’t have the money. Of course, I’m ready to pay for the modern heating plus cooling equipment however he was having none of that. So, I spent three days convincing him that this had to happen. Good residential HVAC is essential. Finally, he offered to schedule an HVAC appointment.
