I am a southerner.
I live in the Southeastern portion of the country.
That means I am regularly involved in a love-hate relationship with our air conditioning unit. I honestly prefer our a/c, and I hope I never have to live without it. This is tploy for the AC in our house as well as the AC in our car and in our office at our workplace, however even though in our office multiple of us still assume the need to run the portable heating system because the thermostat on the air conditioning is set to low, I still would never want to do without it. That being said, I also get quite aggravated with our Heating as well as Air Conditioning plan because it is high-priced to operate. Another thing I have done to help our air conditioning plan is that I have planted shade trees; When I have shade trees, it naturally stays cooler in the house so the a/c does not have to labor as hard.
