There was a time a few years back when I let a friend, who was being evicted, into my home to live temporarily. He was a good friend of mine back then and he helped me through some hard times, so I figured I would return the favor. Well, you don’t really get to know somebody until you live with them it seems. My friend turned out to be very difficult to live with. He wouldn’t do his own dishes, and he made huge messes in the house without cleaning up. The thing that bothered me the most was that he would always adjust the thermostat to ridiculous levels so that we were wasting energy. Especially when I wasn’t home, he would go out places leaving the HVAC system running without bothering to shut it off! I have yelled at him on several occasions about him leaving the HVAC system running. I would ask him what was the point of heating or cooling the house if nobody was there! He seemed to get it when I would say things like that to him, but he still would always forget to shut off the HVAC system or have the settings at minimal settings. Like in the winter, we didn’t want the pipes to freeze so I would want the heating system to be at 40 degrees or so when nobody was home. Well, eventually we got so sick of eachother, that he went on his way and I never wanted to have another roommate ever again. We actually never talked to each other ever since that time.
