It was no office job and totally new to me, but I had nothing to lose.
When my company went under a few months back, I lost my job. I really was worried and upset about what our family’s future would hold, and I was in desperate need of a win. For hours and hours, I would sit in my study applying to jobs and interviewing for jobs, and after going through the interview process I would eventually get that dreaded rejection email. Out of the blue, everything changed for me and my never ending job hunt. Just like any other day, I was at the condo searching for jobs, and while the Heating & A/C Tech that my partner had called to service a leak with our AC unit, he ended up making small talk with me. The heating & A/C tech asked what I did for work. As ashamed as I was, I told him that I was unemployed and was looking for a job. I tried to make light of it by making a joke that he should call me if they ever need someone in their office. The last thing I expected was for him to take me up on it. It turns out that the HVAC company he worked for was looking to hire a new technician. It was no office job and totally new to me, but I had nothing to lose. I have now been working for this Heating & A/C supplier for about three months. I wouldn’t have expected to love the work as much as I do. I am no longer strapped to an office cubicle all day, and I am able to help out so many people across the community with my newfound Heating & A/C expertise. I still have a long way to go and even more to learn about the Heating & A/C industry, although I am so glad that this opportunity led to a job that I actually enjoy.
