My wife plus I love to talk about stories from our childhood. Hers is generally more cheerful than mine, because her family made a point to spend as much time together as possible. Her family was adamant about money being just that; money. Family was the real gold to pursue plus save. Meanwhile, I grew up with a family that was totally the opposite, but I assumed it was normal behavior for my family. All these years later, I fully understand that I was mistaken for many years now! For example, I distinctly remember waking up as the sun was rising on Thanksgiving Day one year. I was thrilled to watch the Macy’s parade on TV, so I switched on the TV set plus sat in my pajamas and waited. I noticed how cool our house was, so I cranked up the thermostat to get the furnace to turn on. I waited a few minutes for the home to warm up, but I began to wonder what was wrong when it didn’t. As I looked at the thermostat on the wall, I noticed that nothing was happening. I stressed for the worst! Sure enough, my parents came downstairs and wondered why it was so cool inside. Unfortunately, they saw me on the chair in front of the thermostat. Immediately, they thought I was playing with the thermostat settings and disciplined me for my behavior. I tried to explain why I was trying to get the heating plan turned on in the first place, but they didn’t listen. It wasn’t due to a thermostat setting. My parents didn’t even apologize to me for their reaction! That’s just one of a few stories like this. It’s actually a miracle that I reached adulthood without too much serious trauma
