When a massive heat wave hit my city a few days ago it was so warm outside that heat advisories were set from morning until night.
In all of my years of living here I had never experienced a summer as hot as this one and I had never been so unprepared either.
On the first day that the extreme heat came into town it ended up damaging my old and run down air conditioning unit, leaving me stranded in my apartment with no source of heating other than taking cold showers. Just as I was about to give up and go find a cheap hotel to stay at that had some air conditioning until I could figure out my problem at home, I remembered that my parents had told me that one of their old friends from college was now living in the same city as me. He had founded and ran the HVAC ventilation, heating and cooling company in my hometown for a very long time and they told me that he would help me out with anything I needed. As soon as I sent him a message telling him about my problem with the a/c unit in my apartment he was immediately over at my place lending a hand. He ended up bringing some spare parts he had at his home and had my old AC unit running like it was brand new in only a few minutes. I sure lucked out to be living in the same city as some family friends. Since he refused to take any money from me at the end of the repair, I made sure to whip him up some dinner and a cold six pack of beer.
