What do you mean the AC unit is gone?

I got home from work last week, and I knew something looked odd in the backyard. It was nearly dark, and I could make out the side of the house, but it was too dark to say what was different. I walked inside and grabbed the flashlight from the junk drawer and went back outside. My wife must have seen the light flashing in through the windows and thought there was a prowler. Before I knew what was happening, she was inside yelling and saying she had called the police. I screamed back that it was me. She turned on the porch light and asked why I was outside prowling around and shining the flashlight in the windows. I told her something looked off, and I was right. The air conditioning unit was gone. She asked what I meant. The AC unit was gone? I told her I said what I meant. The air conditioning unit was gone. I wanted to know if she had heard anyone outside, or noticed anything amiss when she got home from work. She hadn’t seen or heard anything, but she was taking a shower. Five minutes later, the police showed up and asked what was wrong. I told them my ac unit was missing, but it was my wife that called, and then I explained how she thought I was a prowler because of the flashlight. Before I knew what was happening, the police were doing a report on the stolen air conditioning unit. I told them I didn’t want to report anything until I talked to the HVAC company, and I wouldn’t do that until the morning.
